Velda lived at Morrison Park Apartments for 15 years. I've been the manager there the entire time, and depending on her work schedule, I saw her mostly every day. Many mornings, when she was between job assignments, she would stop into my office for conversation and a chocolate treat from the basket of chocolates I kept there. I always enjoyed seeing her. We had many fun and interesting conversations over books, history, the origins and meanings of words and phrases, and whatever we were thinking about that day. She was an ideal resident, considerate and friendly. Although she had a small apartment, I always admired what good use she made of the space, and how warm and cozy she made it. Since her passing, I have had resident after resident stop into my office to express their sadness at her passing, and to tell me what a sweet and kind person she was. We were all lucky to have her as a neighbor for as long as we did, and her presence at Morrison Park will surely be missed.

Velda rode with me and another lady to the RCG Idaho Feast site this past 2014. In our conversations I was very impressed with her experiences and knowledge of far more than I realized. I am glad I got to know her better.

My sincere condolences to the Hatch Family in the recent loss of Velda. I had the pleasure of getting to know Velda first at Salt Lake City and the following year in Coeur d'Alene. She was a very caring person and I shall miss her always. I saw her as an older sister and feel honoured to have gotten to spend time with her.

To Ms. Velda Hatch's family, I am truly sorry for your loss. You will all be in my prayers. Velda was a very kind person whom I had the pleasure of spending some time with. Last I was with her was in Couer d'Alene, Idaho. We played disk golf with a group of friends, and Velda seemed to have a blast. Take care

Hearing of Velda just recently - was both shocking and sobering since we had been pen pals exchanging cards several times each year for many years. I always enjoyed sending her a card to inquire how she was and what was going on - and I always got back an immediate card in return. Over the years I found Velda was very special and uniquely blessed with a seemingly quiet, but cheerful and happy spirit demonstrated by that special twinkle and smile she always had. Yet I knew she continually faced trials that might subdue the rest of us. She was very brave and bold in her use of local and distant transporation. We will miss her and that special twinkle and smile, but will see her again most certainly - until then God bless her Family - Friends and Relatives.

I was saddened and shocked to hear about Velda. I had just talked to her the week before. She wasn't feeling well and I thought it was the flu. She rode with us to Salt Lake City several years and I got to know her quite well. We had many interesting talks and I will miss not being able to call her anymore. She gave us one of her poems she wrote. She was a talented lady. I will miss her very much.

My sincere condolences to family and friends, Velda will be missed by everyone who knew her. She had a quiet, friendly way about her that was very endearing. She greeting everyone she met with a big smile and a warm "hello" and was always interested in what others had to say.

I met Velda while she was working as a temp in our program. We worked closely as I trained her. Such a sudden loss, I'm still in shock, I just talked to her the prior week. Many condolences and healing to all who knew her!

Velda worked for our State Health Division program over the years. She was an earnest, dependable addition to our staff. She developed friends here at the Portland State Office and when she wasn't working for us, she popped in for chats. In fact, we were looking forward to having her again soon. We were fortunate to have known and worked with her and we all were saddened by her passing. My deepest sympathies for you, her family.

Velda was always someone I could easily talk with and we got to know each other quite well over the past years. She spoke often of her father and always had an interesting anecdote to add to any conversation. She always had that extra twinkle in her eye when anticipating your next reaction. I miss her already. You have my sincere sympathies.
